Frontwave Payday Schedule 2026: Early Pay Dates, Military Paydays and 2027 Dates

Frontwave Credit Union posts military pay two business days before the official payday. For the rest of 2026, that means early deposits on Nov. 10, Nov. 27, Dec. 11 and Dec. 29.

The dates below come straight from Frontwave’s own 2025-2026 Advance Pay calendar. We checked every one of them against the military pay rule, and they match.

When is the next Frontwave payday?

The next Frontwave early deposit is Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2026. That’s the advance for the mid-November military payday, which falls on Friday, Nov. 13 this year.

After that, the end-of-month advance lands on Friday, Nov. 27, the day after Thanksgiving. The official payday for that one is Tuesday, Dec. 1.

If you’re reading this on Oct. 29, the Oct. 30 payday already posted at Frontwave on Wednesday, Oct. 28. So if your balance looks higher than you expected this week, that’s why.

One heads-up for this weekend. Frontwave has scheduled system maintenance from Friday, Oct. 30 at 5 p.m. through Monday, Nov. 2 at 9 a.m. Online banking, the mobile app, branches and the call center will be down during that window, so move any money you need before Friday evening.

Want the original? Frontwave publishes the full calendar as a one-page PDF, and it’s the same file you’ll find behind the “Military Payday Schedule” button on its military page.

How to read the Frontwave PDF calendar

The PDF uses three colors, and it’s easy to mix them up on a phone screen. Black squares are the official military paydays. Red squares are the days Frontwave posts your money. Gray squares are federal holidays, which push the red date back a day.

Look at November. The black square is Friday the 13th, the gray one is Wednesday the 11th (Veterans Day), and the red one is Tuesday the 10th. That’s the whole system in one month.

Below the calendars, there’s a single line in small print. It says some payments may be credited one day later depending on when the funds arrive. Keep that in mind before you schedule a bill for the red date (more on that further down).

How Frontwave Advance Pay works

Frontwave Advance Pay is Frontwave’s name for early direct deposit. When the Defense Finance and Accounting Service sends the payroll file a few days ahead of payday, Frontwave releases the money to your account right away instead of holding it until the official date.

Frontwave’s own wording is short: get paid up to two days early with direct deposit, with no waiting, no fees and no extra steps. You don’t enroll in anything separate. If your pay is coming to Frontwave by direct deposit, you’re already in.

That’s the part people miss. There’s no toggle to switch on and no premium account to buy. At Frontwave, direct deposit is the only requirement.

Two business days, not two calendar days

This trips people up every year. Frontwave counts business days, so weekends and federal holidays don’t count toward the two days.

When the official payday is a Monday, your money shows up the Thursday before. When it’s a Tuesday, it shows up the Friday before. That’s why the June 1, 2026 payday posted on Thursday, May 28, four calendar days early.

Holidays stretch it further. The Nov. 13, 2026 payday is a Friday, so two business days back would normally be Wednesday. But Nov. 11 is Veterans Day, so Frontwave skips it and posts on Tuesday, Nov. 10.

The shortest gap happens when payday is a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday with no holiday in the way. Then you get exactly two calendar days, like Tuesday, Jan. 13 for the Thursday, Jan. 15 payday.

What time does Frontwave pay?

Frontwave doesn’t publish a set posting time, and we couldn’t find one in any of its official material. The money is released once the payroll file is processed, so the exact hour can change from one payday to the next.

If it’s past mid-morning on a red date and you still see nothing, don’t panic yet. Frontwave’s calendar footnote says some payments may land one day later based on when funds are available.

A good habit: check the Frontwave app after 9 a.m. Pacific on the advance date. If the deposit is still missing by the official payday itself, that’s when to call.

Does Frontwave charge for early pay?

No. Frontwave says there are no fees for Advance Pay, and there’s no minimum balance tied to it on the military page.

Frontwave also runs a separate direct deposit bonus for some new members. The current offer pays $50 when you set up qualifying direct deposits of at least $500 in one calendar month within 90 days of opening an account, and the bonus may be reported to the IRS as interest. That offer comes by email and has its own expiration date, so check your eligibility before counting on it.

Who gets paid early at Frontwave?

Anyone whose military pay goes to Frontwave by direct deposit gets the advance on the red dates. That covers active-duty Marines and Sailors, which is most of Frontwave’s military membership.

Frontwave grew up next to Marine Corps bases. It has been around since 1952, it’s headquartered in Oceanside, California, and it has branches aboard Camp Pendleton, MCRD San Diego and the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center at Twentynine Palms. So “when does Frontwave pay Marines” has the same answer as the calendar above.

Department of Defense civilians bank there too. Frontwave named them alongside active-duty members when it advanced pay during the 2025 shutdown, but civilian employees are paid every two weeks, not on the 1st and 15th, so the red dates on the military calendar won’t match their paydays.

We couldn’t confirm whether Frontwave posts military retirement pay, VA benefits or Social Security early. Those payers send money on their own schedules. If you get one of those deposits, watch two cycles in the app to see when it actually lands.

To join, you generally need to live or work in San Diego, Riverside or San Bernardino County, or be immediate family of a current member. Frontwave had about 122,000 members as of 2023.

A quick look at Frontwave Credit Union

Frontwave is a Southern California credit union, so it’s owned by its members, not by shareholders. It started in 1952 and served Marines long before it took the Frontwave name.

Its branches sit in Oceanside, San Marcos, San Diego, Escondido, Wildomar, Temecula, Barstow and Yucca Valley, plus the three on-base locations. As of 2023 it reported more than $1.4 billion in assets.

The military connection runs deep. Back in 1995, it managed a Recruit Direct Deposit Program, which is part of why so many Marines still open their first account there at boot camp.

It hasn’t all been good press. A 2024 KPBS investigation reported that Frontwave collected about $8 million a year in overdraft fees, roughly triple the average for California state-chartered credit unions, and a congressional inquiry followed that April. If you bank there, it’s worth turning on overdraft alerts or opting out of overdraft coverage on debit card purchases.

What’s in each Frontwave military deposit?

Frontwave doesn’t change how much you’re paid, only when it lands. The two checks a month come from DFAS and follow the same split they would at any bank.

Most service members get about half their monthly net pay on each date. Base pay, BAH and BAS are spread across both, and allotments, SGLI and taxes come out according to your LES.

The end-of-month LES is the one with the full picture. It covers the whole month, so if a mid-month deposit looks off, wait for that LES before calling anyone.

A few things can make one check bigger or smaller than the other:

  • A one-time payment, like a reenlistment bonus or travel reimbursement, often shows up on its own date.
  • Debts and overpayment collections can hit one check harder than the other.
  • Changes you make in myPay (a new allotment or a TSP change) may start mid-month or at the end of the month.

If you’d like to compare this with how federal civilians get paid, our government pay dates page lays out the biweekly OPM schedule side by side.

Frontwave pay schedule 2027 (projected)

Frontwave hasn’t posted its 2027 calendar yet. Its current 2025-2026 PDF stops at December 2026.

Until the new PDF is out, here are our projected 2027 dates. We used the same rule Frontwave uses, two business days before the official payday, skipping weekends and federal holidays. That rule reproduced all 24 of Frontwave’s 2026 dates exactly, so we’re fairly confident in these. Still, treat them as estimates.

The Jan. 1, 2027 pay isn’t in this table because it posts in 2026. New Year’s Day is a holiday, so the official payday moves to Thursday, Dec. 31, 2026, and Frontwave posts on Tuesday, Dec. 29.

We’ll swap these for Frontwave’s official 2027 dates as soon as the new PDF goes up.

How weekends and holidays move your pay

Military pay is due on the 1st and 15th of each month. When either date falls on a weekend or a federal holiday, the official payday moves to the business day before it.

Frontwave then counts two more business days back from that new date. So a holiday can push your Frontwave deposit twice: once by moving the official payday, and again by blocking one of the two business days.

How Frontwave counts two business days, with the dates left in 2026. Graphic: Payday Schedule

The 2026 calendar has a few good examples:

  • Jan. 15 (Thursday): no weekend or holiday involved, so Frontwave posts Tuesday, Jan. 13.
  • Mar. 1 (Sunday): payday moves to Friday, Feb. 27, and Frontwave posts Wednesday, Feb. 25.
  • Sept. 1 (Tuesday): the weekend before doesn’t count, so Frontwave posts Friday, Aug. 28.
  • Nov. 15 (Sunday): payday moves to Friday, Nov. 13. Veterans Day blocks Wednesday, so Frontwave posts Tuesday, Nov. 10.
  • Jan. 1, 2027 (Friday, New Year’s Day): payday moves to Thursday, Dec. 31, and Frontwave posts Tuesday, Dec. 29.

This is also why the July 4 holiday didn’t move anything in 2026. July 4 fell on a Saturday, the observed holiday was Friday, July 3, and the nearest payday (July 15) was well clear of it.

The longest stretches between Frontwave deposits

Early pay doesn’t make the gaps between paychecks shorter on average. It just moves them around, and some stretches in 2026 are noticeably longer than two weeks.

The longest wait of the year was 19 days, from Wednesday, March 11 to Monday, March 30. The shortest is the one happening right now: 13 days, from Oct. 28 to Nov. 10.

StretchFromToDays

LongFri, Dec. 11Tue, Dec. 2918
LongTue, Nov. 10Fri, Nov. 2717
ShortestWed, Oct. 28Tue, Nov. 1013

The pattern is easy to spot once you see it. A long gap shows up when one advance lands early in the week and the next lands late, usually because a month-end payday falls on a Monday or Tuesday.

December is the one to watch. After the Dec. 11 deposit, you wait 18 days to Dec. 29, right through the holidays. If you’re buying gifts or traveling home on leave, budget that Dec. 11 check to last.

How to plan bills around Frontwave paydays

The safest move is to set autopay for the official payday (the black date), not the Frontwave date. You’ll have the money a couple of days early either way, and you’re covered if a deposit ever slips by a day.

Rent is the bill that catches people. Most leases are due on the 1st, and the end-of-month military paycheck lines up with that. In 2026, the money for Dec. 1 rent arrives Nov. 27, so you have a few days of breathing room.

A simple system that works for a lot of families:

  1. Put rent, the car payment and insurance on the end-of-month check.
  2. Put phone, utilities and subscriptions on the mid-month check.
  3. Move a set amount to savings on each red date, before you spend anything.
  4. Keep one cushion of about $200 to $300 for the 18 and 19 day stretches.

If you also have a civilian job or a spouse paid every two weeks, line their pay up on our 2026 payroll calendar. Months with a third biweekly check (there are two in 2026 for most Friday paydays) are good months to catch up on savings.

How to set up direct deposit at Frontwave

You need direct deposit to get Advance Pay. The fastest way to set it up is to call Frontwave at 800.736.4500 and choose option 4, or visit a branch. Frontwave says it takes minutes.

If you’d rather do it yourself, military members change their pay account through myPay, the DFAS self-service site. You’ll need Frontwave’s routing number and your full account number.

  1. Log in to Frontwave online banking or the app and copy your account number. Your routing number is shown there too, or on your checks.
  2. Sign in to myPay and open the direct deposit (pay account) section.
  3. Enter Frontwave’s routing number, your account number and the account type.
  4. Save the change and keep the confirmation.
  5. Check your next LES to make sure the new account shows up.

DoD civilians and other employees can use Frontwave’s direct deposit form instead. Fill in your name, account number and account type, sign it, and give it to your payroll office.

We didn’t list a routing number here on purpose. Bank directories show more than one routing number for Frontwave, and the wrong one can bounce a paycheck. Get it from inside your own account.

When your first early paycheck arrives

Don’t expect Advance Pay on the very next payday after you switch. A myPay change can take a full pay cycle to take effect, and your first deposit may go to the old account or arrive on the regular date.

Plan on one or two paydays before you see money on the red dates. Keep your old account open until at least one deposit has landed at Frontwave.

New recruits are a special case. At boot camp, pay often starts going to an account opened during processing, and the first check can take a few weeks. If that account is at Frontwave (it has a branch at MCRD San Diego), Advance Pay applies once the deposits are flowing.

Why your Frontwave deposit didn’t come early

Most late deposits have one of a few causes. Run through these before you call.

  • The payroll file came in late. Frontwave can only release money it has received, and its calendar footnote says some payments may post one day later.
  • You just changed direct deposit. The first payday after a switch often goes to the old account or arrives on the official date.
  • Your name or account number doesn’t match. A typo in myPay can send the deposit back, and that takes days to sort out.
  • Split allotments. If part of your pay goes to another bank, that part follows the other bank’s timing, not Frontwave’s.
  • A government shutdown or pay system problem. In those cases, DFAS may not send the file at all.

If the money is still missing on the official payday (the black date), work through it in this order:

  1. Check your latest LES in myPay and confirm the net pay amount and the account it went to.
  2. Look at your Frontwave transactions, not just the balance. A pending hold or a debit can hide a deposit that already posted.
  3. Ask your unit admin or IPAC whether there was a pay problem for your unit this cycle.
  4. Call Frontwave at 800.736.4500 with your LES handy.

Most of the time, step one answers it. A wrong digit in the account number is one of the most common reasons a deposit never arrives, and it’s the one Frontwave can’t fix from its side.

What Frontwave did during the government shutdown

During the government shutdown that stopped military pay in 2025, Frontwave advanced $50 million in payroll to more than 33,000 active-duty service members and DoD civilians. It announced the numbers on Dec. 12, 2025.

Frontwave press release from December 12, 2025 saying it advanced 50 million dollars in payroll to more than 33,000 service members and DoD civilians
Frontwave’s Dec. 12, 2025 press release on the shutdown pay advance. Screenshot: frontwavecu.com

Frontwave used the direct deposit details it already had to send the money automatically. It also offered 0% interest emergency loans and worked with Marine Corps leadership on the response.

This is now an official program. Frontwave calls it Government Shutdown Protection and says it advances payroll for eligible active-duty members and DoD employees who have direct deposit there.

I think this is the strongest reason to keep military pay at Frontwave. Two days early is nice. Getting paid at all when Congress misses a deadline is a different level of help, and not every bank stepped in like that in 2025.

Frontwave vs Navy Federal and other early-pay banks

Most military-friendly banks post pay up to two days early now, so the timing alone won’t separate them. Here’s how Frontwave stacks up on the details we could confirm.

BankEarly paySign-up neededWhere it shines
FrontwaveUp to 2 business daysNo, automatic with direct depositShutdown pay advance, branches on Marine bases
Navy FederalUp to 2 days for eligible direct depositsNoWorldwide branches and ATMs
ChimeUp to 2 days with direct depositNoNo-fee app account
Wells FargoUp to 2 days for eligible depositsNoLarge branch network

For exact posting days at the others, see our Navy Federal pay day schedule, Chime payday schedule and Wells Fargo pay day schedule.

Our take: if you’re stationed in Southern California, Frontwave is hard to beat because of the on-base branches. If you move often or deploy overseas, a bank with a worldwide ATM network may be easier to live with. You can keep both and split your pay.

Common questions about Frontwave pay

Does Frontwave pay on the 1st and 15th?

Frontwave posts military pay two business days before the 1st and 15th, or before the earlier business day when those dates fall on a weekend or holiday. The 1st and 15th are the official DoD paydays.

Is there a Frontwave payday schedule app?

No separate app exists. The calendar is a PDF on Frontwave’s military page, and your deposits show up in the regular Frontwave mobile banking app. Save the PDF to your phone or bookmark this page.

When does Frontwave get paid this month?

For November 2026, Frontwave posts on Tuesday, Nov. 10 (for the Nov. 13 payday) and Friday, Nov. 27 (for the Dec. 1 payday). For December, it posts on Dec. 11 and Dec. 29.

Does Frontwave pay early on Veterans Day week?

Yes, but it posts a day earlier than usual. Veterans Day doesn’t count as a business day, so in 2026 the deposit lands Tuesday, Nov. 10 instead of Wednesday.

Does the Frontwave schedule apply outside California?

The dates are the same everywhere, since they follow the DoD payday. Membership is the limit: you generally need ties to San Diego, Riverside or San Bernardino County. If you transfer out of state, you can usually keep your account.

Is “Frontwave payment” the same as Frontwave payday?

Not usually. People searching for a Frontwave payment are often trying to pay a Frontwave loan or credit card. That’s done in online banking or by calling 800.736.4500, and it has nothing to do with the payday calendar.

How many Frontwave paydays are there in 2026?

There are 24 military paydays in 2026, so 24 Frontwave early deposits. One of them, the Jan. 1, 2026 pay, actually posted on Dec. 29, 2025, and the Jan. 1, 2027 pay posts on Dec. 29, 2026. So you’ll see 24 deposits dated in calendar year 2026.

Does Frontwave pay early if my paycheck comes from a civilian job?

Frontwave says Advance Pay works with direct deposit, and the military calendar only covers DoD paydays. For a civilian employer, the deposit can only post once your employer’s payroll file reaches Frontwave, and every company sends that at a different time. Watch your first two deposits to learn your own pattern.

Does Frontwave post Coast Guard or reserve drill pay early?

We couldn’t confirm it. The Coast Guard has its own pay center, and reserve drill pay often arrives on a different schedule from active duty pay. Frontwave’s calendar only covers DoD military paydays, so check with Frontwave at 800.736.4500 if you’re in either group.

What happens if payday falls during Frontwave maintenance?

Your deposit still posts, but you may not see it or be able to move it until systems come back. The Oct. 30 to Nov. 2, 2026 maintenance window starts two days after the Oct. 28 advance, so plan any transfers before Friday at 5 p.m.

Can I get my pay even earlier than the red date?

Not through Advance Pay. Frontwave’s Ready Cash loan lets eligible members borrow up to $500 with same-day access, but that’s a loan with its own terms. Read them before using it to bridge a long gap.

Where can I see other 2026 pay dates?

Our 2026 payroll calendar shows biweekly and semimonthly dates for the whole year. For federal civilian and military pay, see our government pay dates page, and browse more employers on our company payday schedules page.

Frontwave’s 2027 PDF should be the next thing to watch for. Once it’s out, compare it to the projected table above before you set up any January bill payments.
