Navy Federal Pay Day Schedule 2026
Navy Federal posts military direct deposits one business day before the official payday. One. Not two, whatever the forums tell you.
That single business day is what makes the Navy Federal pay day schedule for 2026 worth reading properly, because it sits on top of a second rule people forget: military pay is dated the 1st and the 15th, and both dates slide backwards when they land on a weekend or a federal holiday. Stack the two rules and February’s mid-month pay, officially dated Sunday 15 February, hit accounts on Thursday 12 February. Three calendar days early, out of one business day of early release.
Every 2026 date is below, month by month, with the reason each one moved.
The short version: one business day early, on Free Active Duty Checking. Active duty gets paid twice a month; retirees and VA recipients once. The money usually turns up before breakfast, but Navy Federal has never published a guaranteed time and I’m not going to invent one for you.
Every 2026 pay date, and the day the money actually lands
Two dates matter here and they’re not the same. The DFAS payday is when the Defense Finance and Accounting Service releases the money. The Navy Federal early post is when it turns up in a Free Active Duty Checking account, one business day sooner.

These come from the DFAS rule that pay landing on a Saturday, Sunday or federal holiday goes out on the business day before, then checked against Navy Federal’s published posting calendar. Two independent trackers list a different date in one or two months of the year. If your account disagrees with this table, your account wins.
Why your second paycheck carries next month’s date
Active duty pay comes in two halves. The mid-month half covers the 1st to the 15th and pays on the 15th. The second half covers the 16th to the end of the month and pays on the 1st of the month after. So November’s second paycheck is dated 1 December. That isn’t an error in the table.
Your LES and your bank are supposed to disagree
The payment date is what DFAS records and what your LES prints. The posting date is when Navy Federal lets you spend it. With a one business day release those two are meant to differ. If the LES says 1 December and the money showed up on 30 November, nothing broke. That’s the benefit working.
What actually happens in each month of 2026
The table gives you the year at a glance. This part tells you which months catch people out, and they aren’t the ones you’d guess.
April is the only month in 2026 where neither payday moves at all.
Navy Federal pay dates in January 2026
Mid-month: DFAS pays Thursday 15 January, Navy Federal posts Wednesday 14 January. End-of-month: DFAS pays Friday 30 January, Navy Federal posts Thursday 29 January.
Only the second paycheck moves. 1 February is a Sunday, so the money goes out on the Friday and lands on the Thursday, three calendar days ahead of the LES date. January’s first payment is also the one that carried the 3.8% basic pay raise.
Navy Federal pay dates in February 2026
Mid-month: DFAS pays Friday 13 February, Navy Federal posts Thursday 12 February. End-of-month: DFAS pays Friday 27 February, Navy Federal posts Thursday 26 February.
February is the month that gets people. Both the 15th and 1 March fall on a Sunday, so both paychecks retreat to a Friday and Navy Federal releases both on the Thursday before. Budget by calendar date instead of by payday and this is the month where your rent clears earlier than you planned for.
Navy Federal pay dates in March 2026
Mid-month: DFAS pays Friday 13 March, Navy Federal posts Thursday 12 March. End-of-month: DFAS pays Wednesday 1 April, Navy Federal posts Tuesday 31 March.
Mid-month slides because 15 March is a Sunday. The second payment is the interesting one. It’s dated 1 April, a Wednesday, so Navy Federal releases it on Tuesday 31 March and you get both March paychecks inside March.
Navy Federal pay dates in April 2026
Mid-month: DFAS pays Wednesday 15 April, Navy Federal posts Tuesday 14 April. End-of-month: DFAS pays Friday 1 May, Navy Federal posts Thursday 30 April.
Nothing moves. Both dates are ordinary weekdays, so it’s a flat one business day early on each. April is the quietest month on the whole calendar.
Navy Federal pay dates in May 2026
Mid-month: DFAS pays Friday 15 May, Navy Federal posts Thursday 14 May. End-of-month: DFAS pays Monday 1 June, Navy Federal posts Friday 29 May.
Memorial Day on Monday 25 May sits between the two paydays and shifts neither of them. The second payment is dated Monday 1 June, which drops the Navy Federal release to Friday 29 May. You get the money before the long weekend instead of after it.
Navy Federal pay dates in June 2026
Mid-month: DFAS pays Monday 15 June, Navy Federal posts Friday 12 June. End-of-month: DFAS pays Wednesday 1 July, Navy Federal posts Tuesday 30 June.
Mid-month pay is dated a Monday, so the early release lands the Friday before. Juneteenth on Friday 19 June falls in the gap between paydays and changes nothing.
Navy Federal pay dates in July 2026
Mid-month: DFAS pays Wednesday 15 July, Navy Federal posts Tuesday 14 July. End-of-month: DFAS pays Friday 31 July, Navy Federal posts Thursday 30 July.
Independence Day is observed on Friday 3 July, which also falls between paydays and does nothing. The second payment is dated Saturday 1 August, pulling DFAS back to the Friday and Navy Federal to the Thursday.
Navy Federal pay dates in August 2026
Mid-month: DFAS pays Friday 14 August, Navy Federal posts Thursday 13 August. End-of-month: DFAS pays Tuesday 1 September, Navy Federal posts Monday 31 August.
15 August is a Saturday, so DFAS pays the Friday and Navy Federal the Thursday. The end-of-month payment needs no shifting at all.
Navy Federal pay dates in September 2026
Mid-month: DFAS pays Tuesday 15 September, Navy Federal posts Monday 14 September. End-of-month: DFAS pays Thursday 1 October, Navy Federal posts Wednesday 30 September.
Labor Day on Monday 7 September lands between paydays and moves nothing. Both payments run straight through.
Navy Federal pay dates in October 2026
Mid-month: DFAS pays Thursday 15 October, Navy Federal posts Wednesday 14 October. End-of-month: DFAS pays Friday 30 October, Navy Federal posts Thursday 29 October.
Mid-month is clean. Then 1 November falls on a Sunday, so the second payment goes out on Friday 30 October and posts Thursday 29 October. Another three day gap, same as February.
Navy Federal pay dates in November 2026
Mid-month: DFAS pays Friday 13 November, Navy Federal posts Thursday 12 November. End-of-month: DFAS pays Tuesday 1 December, Navy Federal posts Monday 30 November.
Two things happen at once. Mid-month pay is dated Sunday 15 November, which moves DFAS to Friday the 13th and Navy Federal to Thursday the 12th, the day straight after Veterans Day. Veterans Day itself, Wednesday 11 November, is a federal holiday that changes nothing, which is exactly why people expect a shift that never comes. The second payment posts Monday 30 November, the Monday after Thanksgiving.
Navy Federal pay dates in December 2026
Mid-month: DFAS pays Tuesday 15 December, Navy Federal posts Monday 14 December. End-of-month: DFAS pays Thursday 31 December, Navy Federal posts Wednesday 30 December.
Mark this one. The second payment is dated 1 January 2027, a federal holiday, so DFAS pays on Thursday 31 December and Navy Federal releases it on Wednesday 30 December. That payment sits inside the 2026 tax year, which matters if you’re watching where income falls across the year line. Christmas Day, Friday 25 December, sits between the two paydays and moves neither.
Does Navy Federal pay early? Yes, by one business day
Navy Federal’s own wording is that Free Active Duty Checking members “automatically receive their direct deposit one business day early.” There’s no switch to flip and no form to send. It’s baked into the account.
The word doing the work is business. One business day can look like three calendar days, because the payday has usually already been dragged off a weekend before the early release gets applied on top. February 2026 again: scheduled for Sunday the 15th, paid Friday the 13th, posted Thursday the 12th.
The two day claim is real, just not here
Two day early pay exists. Navy Federal doesn’t offer it. USAA advertises military pay “as soon as two days early.” Chime and Varo market “up to two days.” Navy Federal says one business day and has never said anything else. So if you moved over from USAA and your pay feels late now, nothing is broken. You changed institutions and you changed schedules with it.
Read the hedging in all three of those claims though. “As soon as.” “Up to.” Nobody can release money they haven’t received yet. Every early pay program on the market, Navy Federal’s included, sits downstream of whenever DFAS decides to transmit the file. When DFAS runs late, everybody runs late.
Only one account gets the early release
- Free Active Duty Checking is the account Navy Federal names in the benefit, and it needs a qualifying military direct deposit attached.
- Other Navy Federal checking accounts post on the normal settlement date.
- If all you hold is savings there’s nothing to release early in the first place.
Worth checking. Don’t assume, because people open a standard checking account when they join, never move across, and spend two years wondering why their pay lands a day behind everyone else in the barracks. Call 1-888-842-6328 and ask which product you’re actually on.
USAA is a day faster, and I still wouldn’t switch for it
If early access is the only thing you’re optimising for, Navy Federal isn’t the quickest option on the market.
| Provider | Advertised early access | Condition |
|---|---|---|
| Navy Federal | One business day | Free Active Duty Checking with qualifying military direct deposit |
| USAA | As soon as two days | Only when the payment information arrives from the military in time |
| Chime, Varo and similar apps | Up to two days | Depends entirely on when the payer transmits the file |
Here’s the opinion, since you came here for dates and may as well have one. The day money becomes spendable matters more than the day it appears, and 24 hours is a thin reason to move a direct deposit that already works. Every myPay change buys you one pay cycle of uncertainty, and the way it goes wrong is your paycheck arriving at an account you’ve just closed.
That story is far more common than anyone genuinely needing the extra day.
What time the money actually shows up
Most members see it in the early morning, somewhere around 4:00 to 8:00 a.m. Central. That window comes from members and from military finance trackers. It does not come from Navy Federal.
And here is the honest limit on this page: Navy Federal publishes no posting time, no cut-off time and no holiday processing policy. I can’t give you a guaranteed minute because there isn’t one to give. Any site quoting you an exact time is guessing and hoping you don’t notice.
Pending isn’t posted, and neither one is spendable
- Pending means Navy Federal has been told money is coming but hasn’t released it. You can see the number. You can’t touch it.
- Posted means it has settled into your transaction history.
- Available balance is what you can spend right now, and on payday morning it’s the only figure worth looking at. Your current balance can read higher while a deposit sits pending behind it.
A deposit that stays pending most of the day is normal. Irritating, but normal.
Overseas, watch the clock instead of the date
The release is tied to your account, not to where you’re standing, so the posting moment is identical worldwide. It just arrives at a different hour on your clock.
| Where you are | Typical local arrival | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Hawaii (HST) | 12:00 a.m. – 4:00 a.m. | Same calendar day, very early |
| Alaska (AKST) | 1:00 a.m. – 5:00 a.m. | Same calendar day |
| Pacific (PST) | 2:00 a.m. – 6:00 a.m. | Same calendar day |
| Mountain (MST) | 3:00 a.m. – 7:00 a.m. | Same calendar day |
| Central (CST) | 4:00 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. | Reference window |
| Eastern (EST) | 5:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. | Same calendar day |
| Germany / Italy (CET) | 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. | Same calendar day, midday |
| Bahrain / Middle East (AST) | 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. | Same calendar day, afternoon |
| Japan / Korea (JST) | 7:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. | Same calendar day, evening |
| Guam (ChST) | 8:00 p.m. – midnight | Same calendar day, late evening |
Converted from US Central Standard Time. During US daylight saving, roughly March to November, local arrival shifts by about an hour, and overseas zones running their own daylight saving shift again on top. Treat these as windows, not appointments.
Turn the alert on and stop refreshing
Open your alert settings in the Navy Federal app or in online banking and switch on the deposit notification for your checking account. It tells you the moment funds clear, which beats opening the app every twenty minutes from 5 a.m. onwards.
Weekends and holidays pull the date backwards, never forwards
The rule is one sentence and it has never changed: if a military payday falls on a Saturday, Sunday or federal holiday, DFAS pays on the business day before. Navy Federal then takes its one business day off that already moved date.
Federal holidays also mean no ACH settlement at all, which is how a holiday sitting next to a weekend drags your deposit back several calendar days.
| Federal holiday | Date | Affects a 2026 pay date? |
|---|---|---|
| New Year’s Day | Thursday, January 1, 2026 | No – falls outside a pay date shift |
| Martin Luther King Jr. Day | Monday, January 19, 2026 | No – falls outside a pay date shift |
| Washington’s Birthday | Monday, February 16, 2026 | No – falls outside a pay date shift |
| Memorial Day | Monday, May 25, 2026 | No – falls outside a pay date shift |
| Juneteenth | Friday, June 19, 2026 | No – falls outside a pay date shift |
| Independence Day (observed) | Friday, July 3, 2026 | No – falls outside a pay date shift |
| Labor Day | Monday, September 7, 2026 | No – falls outside a pay date shift |
| Columbus Day | Monday, October 12, 2026 | No – falls outside a pay date shift |
| Veterans Day | Wednesday, November 11, 2026 | No – falls outside a pay date shift |
| Thanksgiving Day | Thursday, November 26, 2026 | No – falls outside a pay date shift |
| Christmas Day | Friday, December 25, 2026 | No – falls outside a pay date shift |
| New Year’s Day 2027 | Friday, January 1, 2027 | December 2026 end-of-month pay moved to Thu, Dec 31, 2026 |
Two things get confused here. Branches close on federal holidays, but branch hours have nothing to do with when a deposit posts, because posting runs on the ACH settlement calendar instead. And Navy Federal doesn’t settle ACH on Saturdays or Sundays at all, so any payday that looks like it lands on a weekend has already been moved to the Friday.
Retiree pay and VA compensation land once a month
Both follow the same rule as each other. Payment for a given month goes out on the first business day of the month after, moved back to the previous business day whenever the 1st is a weekend or a holiday. One payment a month, not two.
| Benefit month | Scheduled date | Actual payment date | Navy Federal early post |
|---|---|---|---|
| January 2026 | Feb 1, 2026 | Fri, Jan 30, 2026 | Thu, Jan 29, 2026 |
| February 2026 | Mar 1, 2026 | Fri, Feb 27, 2026 | Thu, Feb 26, 2026 |
| March 2026 | Apr 1, 2026 | Wed, Apr 1, 2026 | Tue, Mar 31, 2026 |
| April 2026 | May 1, 2026 | Fri, May 1, 2026 | Thu, Apr 30, 2026 |
| May 2026 | Jun 1, 2026 | Mon, Jun 1, 2026 | Fri, May 29, 2026 |
| June 2026 | Jul 1, 2026 | Wed, Jul 1, 2026 | Tue, Jun 30, 2026 |
| July 2026 | Aug 1, 2026 | Fri, Jul 31, 2026 | Thu, Jul 30, 2026 |
| August 2026 | Sep 1, 2026 | Tue, Sep 1, 2026 | Mon, Aug 31, 2026 |
| September 2026 | Oct 1, 2026 | Thu, Oct 1, 2026 | Wed, Sep 30, 2026 |
| October 2026 | Nov 1, 2026 | Fri, Oct 30, 2026 | Thu, Oct 29, 2026 |
| November 2026 | Dec 1, 2026 | Tue, Dec 1, 2026 | Mon, Nov 30, 2026 |
| December 2026 | Jan 1, 2027 | Thu, Dec 31, 2026 | Wed, Dec 30, 2026 |
One caution. Navy Federal’s early deposit wording is attached to Free Active Duty Checking. Retirees and VA recipients report their money arriving a day early too, and it probably does, but that isn’t a published promise. If your budget leans on it, ring the credit union and get your account type confirmed instead of trusting a pattern.
December is the payment to mark. 1 January 2027 is a federal holiday, so December 2026 retired pay and VA compensation go out on Thursday 31 December. That lands inside the 2026 tax year, not 2027.
Social Security ignores the 1st and the 15th completely
Plenty of Navy Federal members have retired pay, VA compensation and Social Security going into the same account, so it helps to see the three calendars side by side. Social Security runs on its own rule: your payment date depends on your birthday.
| Month | Born 1st–10th | Born 11th–20th | Born 21st–31st | SSI |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| January | Wed, Jan 14 | Wed, Jan 21 | Wed, Jan 28 | Wed, Dec 31, 2025 |
| February | Wed, Feb 11 | Wed, Feb 18 | Wed, Feb 25 | Fri, Jan 30 |
| March | Wed, Mar 11 | Wed, Mar 18 | Wed, Mar 25 | Fri, Feb 27 |
| April | Wed, Apr 8 | Wed, Apr 15 | Wed, Apr 22 | Wed, Apr 1 |
| May | Wed, May 13 | Wed, May 20 | Wed, May 27 | Fri, May 1 |
| June | Wed, Jun 10 | Wed, Jun 17 | Wed, Jun 24 | Mon, Jun 1 |
| July | Wed, Jul 8 | Wed, Jul 15 | Wed, Jul 22 | Wed, Jul 1 |
| August | Wed, Aug 12 | Wed, Aug 19 | Wed, Aug 26 | Fri, Jul 31 |
| September | Wed, Sep 9 | Wed, Sep 16 | Wed, Sep 23 | Tue, Sep 1 |
| October | Wed, Oct 14 | Wed, Oct 21 | Wed, Oct 28 | Thu, Oct 1 |
| November | Wed, Nov 11 | Wed, Nov 18 | Wed, Nov 25 | Fri, Oct 30 |
| December | Wed, Dec 9 | Wed, Dec 16 | Wed, Dec 23 | Tue, Dec 1 |
Anyone who started claiming before May 1997, and anyone also receiving SSI, is generally paid on the 3rd of the month instead of on the Wednesday schedule. Navy Federal’s early deposit wording covers military direct deposit and doesn’t extend a stated promise to Social Security.
Reserve, Guard and Coast Guard pay work differently
Drill pay has no fixed date
Drill pay isn’t in the table above because it isn’t on a calendar. It gets generated after your unit submits attendance, so the deposit date depends on when that paperwork clears. Usually one to two weeks after the drill weekend, and later when somebody sits on it.
What stays constant is the tail end. Once the payment goes out, Navy Federal applies the same one business day it applies to active duty pay. Reservists on active duty orders of 30 days or more move onto the standard 1st and 15th schedule for as long as the orders run, then drop back off.
Coast Guard pay doesn’t go through DFAS at all
This is the detail most pay date guides get wrong. Coast Guard pay isn’t administered by DFAS. It’s processed by the Coast Guard Pay and Personnel Center, and Coast Guard members manage it through Direct Access, not myPay. Retired and annuitant pay goes through PPC’s Retiree and Annuitant Services.
For your calendar this barely matters, because Coast Guard active duty pay still runs on the 1st and the 15th with the same weekend and holiday shift. For a missing deposit it matters enormously. Call PPC, not DFAS.
Calling the wrong office is how a one day problem turns into a one week problem.
Your first paycheck will look wrong
The first payment into a new account almost never matches the ones that follow it, and that catches out new recruits and anyone who has just switched accounts.
- New to service: once your pay account exists you join the normal cycle, but the first payment usually covers only the days since your pay start date, so it’s short. Give it a cycle or two to settle.
- New direct deposit: allow a full pay cycle after changing the details. The first payment after a change sometimes turns up at the old account, or as a paper check, because DFAS had already processed that cycle before your change took hold.
- Early posting applies from the very first payment Navy Federal receives. No waiting period, no minimum account history.
Keep the old account open until the first deposit lands where it should. Closing it too early is the single most common way a first paycheck goes missing.
Allotments come out before Navy Federal sees a cent
Most people waiting for a deposit are really waiting for a number, and that number gets decided upstream.
DFAS takes allotments out of the gross payment, so what reaches Navy Federal is already net of them. You won’t see an allotment debit after the money lands, because it never arrived in the first place. That’s why an allotment that started this month makes the paycheck look mysteriously small. New or cancelled allotments take one to two cycles to settle, and a mid cycle change usually throws out one strange looking paycheck before it does.
Split direct deposit sends fixed portions to different accounts. The early release applies to whichever portion Navy Federal receives, independent of what happens to the rest. You set splits in myPay, not in the Navy Federal app.
Same logic covers everything else that makes a paycheck look wrong. SGLI premiums, TSP contributions, a changed tax withholding, debt collection. All of it comes off before transmission.
Your LES explains the gap. Your balance never can.
Put the dates in your phone and stop checking
The calendar file drops every 2026 and 2027 posting date in as an all day event with a reminder the night before. It opens in Apple Calendar, Google Calendar and Outlook.
Printing strips out the navigation and the buttons and gives you a clean page. Pick “Save as PDF” as the destination if you want a file instead of paper.
Pay late? Six checks, in this order
Start with the calendar, not the phone. Most missing deposits turn out to be a misread date.
- Check that today is actually the posting date. If the payday shifted for a weekend or a holiday, the early post moved along with it.
- Look at your available balance, not your pending list. A pending deposit has been announced, not released.
- Wait until close of business. The early morning window is typical, not promised. A late DFAS file kills the early release without touching the official payday.
- Open myPay and read the LES. If the payment was never generated at all, because of a mid cycle PCS, a pay adjustment or a new allotment, the problem sits upstream and only DFAS can fix it.
- Check your routing and account numbers. A recent myPay change can take a full pay cycle to bite.
- Call 1-888-842-6328 and ask one specific question: has an ACH file been received for my account? If the answer is no, your next call is DFAS, or PPC if you’re Coast Guard.
| What you are seeing | Most likely cause | Who fixes it |
|---|---|---|
| No deposit on the expected morning | DFAS transmitted the file later than usual | Wait until close of business, then call Navy Federal |
| Deposit shows as pending all day | Funds announced, settlement not yet released | Resolves on its own by the settlement date |
| Paid early last month, not this month | File arrived too late for the early release window | Nothing to fix – pay still lands on the official payday |
| Amount is lower than expected | New allotment, tax change, SGLI, TSP or debt collection | DFAS / myPay – read your LES |
| Nothing at all and the LES shows paid | Routing or account number mismatch | Navy Federal first, then DFAS to correct myPay |
| Large bonus or SRB held | Standard funds-availability hold on a large deposit | Navy Federal can confirm the release date |
| App shows nothing but money is spendable | Display refresh lag, not a posting failure | Force-refresh or sign in through online banking |
Sending your pay to Navy Federal takes five minutes in myPay
You change direct deposit in myPay, not in the Navy Federal app. Navy Federal only receives what DFAS sends it. Coast Guard members do the same job in Direct Access.
- Sign in to myPay with your DFAS credentials.
- Open Direct Deposit and enter Navy Federal’s routing number, 256074974, with your account number and account type. Check both numbers inside your own account first, because the number printed on a Navy Federal check isn’t always the one used for ACH.
- Save it and note the effective date. Allow a full pay cycle before you expect money at the new account.
- Setting up a split at the same time? Do it in the same session so you aren’t back here next month.
- Leave the old account open until the first payment lands correctly.
Who can actually open an account
Early pay only helps if you’re eligible to bank there. Membership is open to:
- Serving members of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, National Guard and Space Force, plus Delayed Entry Program participants, Officer Candidate and ROTC members, and reservists.
- Veterans, retirees and annuitants of any of those branches.
- Department of Defense civilian employees, US Government employees working at DoD installations, DoD contractors assigned to government facilities, and DoD civilian retirees and annuitants.
- Family and household members. Parents, grandparents, spouses, siblings, children including adopted and stepchildren, grandchildren, and anyone sharing a household with an eligible member.
You open membership with a Membership Savings Account holding $5, and that $5 stays there for as long as you’re a member. Applying takes a Social Security number, a current home address, government issued ID and a funding source.
Navy Federal is a credit union, not a bank, so deposits sit under NCUA insurance instead of the FDIC. Coverage works out the same either way: $250,000 per member, per ownership category.
What changed since 2025
The rules didn’t. The calendar did.
Same mechanism as every year before it. Pay on the 1st and the 15th, shifted back for weekends and federal holidays, released one business day early. What moves year to year is which weekday those dates happen to fall on. For 2026 that produces three calendar day gaps in January, February, October and November, and a December payment dragged all the way back to the 30th because 1 January 2027 is a holiday.
The other 2026 change is the amount, not the date. The 3.8% basic pay raise took effect on 1 January, so the mid January payment was the first one carrying it. A raise never moves your pay date, only the figure on the LES.
Uniformed services pay grades of the United States
Your pay date is identical at every grade and in every branch. Rank decides the amount, not the day.
| Category | Pay grades | Covers |
|---|---|---|
| Enlisted | E-1 through E-9 | Junior enlisted through senior enlisted advisors |
| Warrant officer | W-1 through W-5 | Technical specialists (not used by the Air Force or Space Force) |
| Commissioned officer | O-1 through O-10 | Company grade through general and flag officers |
Eight uniformed services run on this structure. Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force and Coast Guard, plus the commissioned corps of the Public Health Service and NOAA.
The words on your LES, in plain English
Most confusion about pay dates turns out to be confusion about vocabulary. These are the words that appear when something looks wrong.
- DFAS
- Defense Finance and Accounting Service. The agency that works out and issues military pay for the DoD branches. It decides the payday; your bank just receives it.
- myPay
- The DFAS self service portal where you read your LES and change direct deposit, allotments and tax withholding.
- Direct Access
- The Coast Guard equivalent of myPay, run by the Coast Guard Pay and Personnel Center.
- LES
- Leave and Earnings Statement. The monthly record of entitlements, deductions and allotments, and the only real answer to “why is my pay this amount.”
- ACH
- Automated Clearing House. The network that carries direct deposits between institutions. It settles on business days only, which is the whole reason weekends and holidays move pay dates.
- Settlement date
- The date funds are formally transferred. Early pay programs release money ahead of this date once the payment file turns up.
- Allotment
- A recurring deduction pulled from your pay before it’s transmitted. Insurance, savings, a loan, support payments.
- BAH
- Basic Allowance for Housing. Paid with basic pay on the same schedule, at a rate set by duty location, grade and dependency status.
- BAS
- Basic Allowance for Subsistence. A flat monthly food allowance, also on the same schedule.
- SGLI
- Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance. The premium comes out of pay, which is why a coverage change moves the deposit amount.
- NCUA
- National Credit Union Administration. The federal insurer for credit union deposits, and the credit union answer to the FDIC.
- Available balance
- What you can spend right now. Different from current balance, which can include money still sitting pending.
Three things people mix up
Member pay dates and Navy Federal employee payroll
Two unrelated schedules. Member pay dates, the subject of this page, govern when military pay, retired pay and VA benefits post into a Navy Federal account. Navy Federal employee payroll is the internal schedule for people who work at the credit union, set by its own payroll calendar and disconnected from DFAS entirely.
If the staff calendar is what you came for, try the Navy Federal employee pay schedule instead.
A pay chart and a pay calendar
A pay chart shows amounts. What an E-5 with six years in earns per month. A pay calendar, like this one, shows dates. Searches for “Navy Federal pay chart” almost always want the calendar, because Navy Federal doesn’t set pay rates. It only receives the payments.
For the amounts, see the 2026 military pay chart with the 3.8% raise applied.
Bank holidays and pay date shifts
A closed branch doesn’t move your deposit, and a moved deposit doesn’t mean a branch is closed. Posting follows the ACH settlement calendar. The two only look connected because both of them follow the same federal holiday list.
2027 dates, calculated but not confirmed
Navy Federal publishes its posting calendar a year at a time, so 2027 isn’t official yet. The dates below come out of the same rule used for 2026. The 1st and the 15th, shifted back for weekends and federal holidays, then one business day earlier for Free Active Duty Checking. I’d expect them to be right, but check them against Navy Federal’s calendar once it appears.

Questions people actually ask
Does Navy Federal pay 2 days early?
No. It’s one business day, on Free Active Duty Checking. Two day access is a USAA, Chime and Varo claim, not a Navy Federal one. One business day can still look like three calendar days when the payday has already been pulled off a weekend, which is probably where the confusion started.
Will I still get paid early while I’m deployed?
Yes. The release is tied to your account type, not to your location. The posting moment is the same everywhere, so several time zones ahead means the money appears during your afternoon or evening instead of your morning.
Does early pay stop when I separate or retire?
Free Active Duty Checking needs a qualifying military direct deposit. When active duty pay stops, that requirement stops being met and the account terms change. Talk to Navy Federal before your separation date about which account you move onto and whether early posting carries over to retired pay or VA compensation.
A pay raise was announced. Which paycheck shows it?
Basic pay raises take effect on 1 January, so the mid January payment is the first one carrying them. The 2026 raise was 3.8%. BAH changes take effect from whatever date the rate tables say. Neither one moves your pay date.
Does Navy Federal tell me when the deposit lands?
It will if you switch on account alerts in the mobile app or online banking. A deposit alert fires the moment funds are released, which is more reliable than watching your balance.
Is Navy Federal open on federal holidays?
Branches close, but that has nothing to do with deposit posting. Deposits run on the ACH settlement calendar. What a holiday really does is delete a settlement day, and that’s why paydays shift backwards around them.
Does Navy Federal post Social Security early too?
Social Security has its own schedule. Second, third or fourth Wednesday of the month depending on your birthday, or the 3rd for older claims and SSI. Navy Federal’s early deposit wording covers military direct deposit and doesn’t make a stated promise about Social Security.
Why does my LES show one date and Navy Federal another?
Your LES shows the payment date, which is the official DFAS settlement date. Navy Federal shows the posting date, which is when funds were released to you. With a one business day release those two are supposed to differ, usually by one to three calendar days.
Do allotments come out before or after my pay posts?
Before. DFAS deducts them from the gross payment, so what Navy Federal receives is already net. You’ll never see a separate allotment debit after the deposit lands.
Can I check pay dates without my service member’s myPay login?
Yes. Pay dates are public and identical for everyone in uniform. Only the amounts are private. The calendar on this page is everything you need to plan around paydays; myPay is only required to see figures and deductions.
Does Navy Federal hold large deposits like a bonus or SRB?
Funds availability rules let any financial institution hold an unusually large deposit. Routine military pay isn’t normally held. A one off re-enlistment bonus can be. Navy Federal will tell you the release date if a hold gets applied.
Do DoD civilian and GS employees use this calendar?
No. Federal civilian pay runs on a biweekly cycle set by the federal pay period calendar, not the 1st and 15th military cycle. Everything on this page applies to uniformed service pay, retired pay and VA benefits.
I’m in the Coast Guard. Do these dates apply to me?
The dates do. The support office doesn’t. Coast Guard pay is processed by the Coast Guard Pay and Personnel Center through Direct Access instead of DFAS through myPay, so a missing deposit is a PPC question.
What happens to my pay date during a PCS?
The dates don’t change. The amount does, because BAH is tied to duty location and travel entitlements are processed separately from basic pay. Expect one or two odd looking paychecks around a move, and read the LES, not the balance.
Is there an official Navy Federal page for pay dates?
There is, and it’s linked in the sources below. It lists the dates and nothing else, with no explanation of the rules underneath them, which is the gap this page exists to fill.
Can I get paid earlier than one business day?
Not through Navy Federal. The release date comes from when the payment file arrives and from the one business day policy. There’s no setting, no account tier and no request that moves it further forward.
The dates worth writing down right now
- Wednesday 30 December 2026. December’s second paycheck, pulled back by the New Year holiday, and the last money of the tax year.
- Thursday 12 February and Thursday 29 October 2026. Both sit three calendar days ahead of the LES date, the widest gaps of the year.
- Thursday 12 November 2026. The day after Veterans Day, and easy to miss because the holiday itself moves nothing.
- Friday 29 May 2026. Money in hand before the Memorial Day weekend instead of after it.
