Which calendar do you need?
- Weekly — 52 paydays, same weekday every week.
- Bi-weekly — 26 paydays, every other week, with two three-payday months.
- Semi-monthly — 24 paydays, usually the 15th and the last day of the month.
- Monthly — 12 paydays, normally the last working day.
How to read a payroll calendar
Every row has three dates that people mix up: the pay period start, the pay period end, and the payday itself.
The payday is always after the period ends, because payroll needs time to process hours, approvals and deductions.
Three-paycheck months in 2026
If you are paid bi-weekly, two months in 2026 will contain three paydays instead of two. Which two depends on the date of your first payday in January.
That extra check is not a bonus. It is simply the calendar catching up, so treat it as a good month to clear a bill rather than a raise.
